Megalo Box

Megalo Box is a 50th anniversary reimagining of the Ashita no Joe manga series written by Asao Takamori. As an ultimately commemorative piece, the show is a nostalgia trip hearkening back to the style and presentation of late 1990’s anime. For some, this will be a big draw; others may find it too simple, and simply outdated.

Yowamushi Pedal: Glory Line

Glory Line team

Yowamushi Pedal is easily one of my favorite sports franchises in all of anime. I’m not even a real cyclist or anything. I mean, I’ll do an occasional mountain bike race, but I ride more for adventure than sport. There’s something about YowaPedal, though, that legit motivates me and keeps me coming back.

I’d like to take a quick moment here to look at what is easily the best series I’ve seen involving A-1 Pictures this season. No, not Darling in the FranXX, and definitely not Record of Grancrest War. I’m talking about slice-of-life romcom Wotaku ni Koi wa Muzukashii.

Dagashi Kashi 1&2 (Winter 2016, 2018)

Dagashi Kashi­ blipped onto my radar this past winter after I happened upon a promotional image for the second season. I thought the character designs looked pretty interesting, so I decided to give the series a try. In doing so, I ended up learning more about Japanese snack culture than I ever thought possible.

A Place Further Than the Universe

It’s always refreshing to see an original anime be talked about as possibly one of the best to come out of any given season. This is even truer for Sora yori mo Tooi Basho. It’s not an edge-of-your-seat adventure series rife with peril or action, nor is it even all that climactic in general. It is, however, objectively the best show I’ve seen so far from the Winter 2018 season, and one of the better ones I’ve seen in the last year.
