I was nominated for this by Brother Yomu. As expected, he is wise to recognize and understand my uniqueness. I’m happy to receive this nomination.

What is your favourite anime that has made you cry?

Within me there exists a mental desire to remain stoic that is constantly at odds with a more emotional desire to be able to understand and express my inner feelings. I tend be more reserved until there’s a mental break and subsequent eruption of emotion. Anime is an outlet for me.

Anime and occasionally other live-action shows allow me to escape said reality, and hence that desire to be strong and stoic. This is to say, I feel things from them that I struggle to allow myself to feel otherwise.

As I’ve mentioned before, I’m a big fan of dramas because I like being punched in the soul (There may be a post about this coming in the near to distant future). I shed more than a couple tears watching Violet Evergarden. I liked A Place Further Than the Universe as well.

It doesn’t necessarily require a full-on drama to damage me internally, either. Made in Abyss sucker-punched me pretty hard.

Have you ever felt motivated by any specific anime? Which one and why?

Most sports series tend to motivate me at least a little bit. The most influential as of late, though, have been Yowamushi Pedal and Welcome to the Ballroom. In fact, I now semi-regularly compete in mountain bike races, and actually teach a little bit of ballroom dance.

More generally speaking, I still occasionally look to Dragon Ball Z for self-improvement motivation.

This one will probably result in either very simple or complex answers – why did you decide upon the username & blog name you chose?

Well, at the time the site and show were created, there were two of us who formed “The Weeabros”.

Having a podcast is like having a band; you have to prepare, record, etc. Sometimes things just don’t work out like you thought they would.

As you all should know by now, I don’t always play by the rules. I’m not nominating anyone because I haven’t been keeping track of who has done this already. If you want to and are waiting for a nomination, be my guest. Yomu’s questions will suffice.

The Weeabros don’t own any of the images used in this post, bro. They belong to their respective creators, licensors, and distributors. Please support the official releases.

  1. I’m the same way with emotions. I think there are times when it’s best to be a “pillar” so to speak, and remain stoic as you say. Anime happens to be a great outlet for the opposite though, I enjoy having my heart ripped out of my chest by super sad anime.

I knew you biked, but now I also know you ballroom dance! Nice.

  2. Only anime so far to get me to cry was Grave of the Fireflies. Man, that movie was devastating to me. Only two other manage to get me to tear up. The rest, don’t register with me emotionally. It’s kinda difficult for any work of fiction to get me to cry, but when they do I know I found something special to me.

Mountain biker, and a ballroom dancer? Have you ever considered combining the two for some kind of events. You know, riding the mountain while dancing with your bike. Oh, how I would like to see that haha

    1. I actually didn’t find Grave of the Firelies that devastating. To me, it was moreso about two kids who just didn’t want to do what they were told. I get that they had big losses at a young age and all, but they hardly even tried to help out when they were asked to. I found it hard to understand/sympathize with them.

What you’re talking would be immensely difficult, however something somewhat close to it does exist already. https://youtu.be/LgVuwStkycw

      1. Fair point on Graves of the Fireflies. I saw it years ago so it’s not entirely fresh in my mind, but the part that got me about it is the brother wanting to take care of his sister, and failing in doing that. Seeing his ghost self witness all the mistakes he was unable too fix because he’s too stubborn to swallow his pride, and accept help when he needed the most was devastating for me. It’s that regret I’m able to sympathize with a great deal.

That’s some impressive biking skills. Wish I do stuff like that with my bike. I would be the talk of my small boring town lol

    1. I know dance moves, but I not really how to dance well, if that makes sense. It’s a lot harder to do to the beat of the music and with lots of other people on the floor.

I know what you mean; my grandparentss were competitively dancers, so supposedly I have those genes lying dormant somewhere within lol.
